Devotional – Week 2 – Day 2

MAIN POINT:  I SHOULD TRUST GOD TO PROVIDE FOR ME WHEN I OBEY HIM!

You may start your prayer with something like this:  God, we thank you for another day and we thank you for this time together.  Bless our time with you as we grow in you. Amen.

Matthew 6:31-33

“So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.”

“So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?” Let your kids know that this is Jesus telling us not to worry about these things, for they are necessities that Jesus will provide and we should not worry about our necessities because God takes care of His children like He always has and always will.

“These things dominate the thought of unbelievers” explain that people that don’t have God as their father don’t look to him to provide for them so they go through life not realizing that God is there for them so they tend to worry more. The wonderful thing about being a believer is that we have the hope of God.

“But your heavenly Father already knows all your needs” ask your kids if they know how many bones they have in their body (you don’t have to have an answer but pause for their answer) then ask if they know their blood type, or their social security number, or the square footage of their room. Let them know that God knows all these things about them and more. God knows us better than we know ourselves and knows what our needs are.

“Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously” The Kingdom of God is not a place or location that needs to be sought out, it is a people that needs to be reached.  When the bible talks about the Church, it is really talking about all the followers of Christ all over the world and not an actual building. The Bible is talking about the people that will join God for eternity in heaven when it mentions the Kingdom of God. God’s Kingdom is out there today and we need to be seeking it.

“Live righteously” Jesus’ life is a perfect example for us. We need to read our Bible everyday and learning about Jesus, to follow his examples.

“And he will give you everything you need” Again, this is talking about our needs such as food, water, clothing, shelter, etc. not about the things we want.

We really want to focus on God meeting our every need. As children, it’s easy to think that what we want is what we need, but explain to your children that the things we need are those things that keep us healthy and of sound mind and God is able to provide for all the things we need because of His great love for us.

You may end with a prayer like this:  God, we thank you for our time together as a family.  Thank you for providing for our needs at all times.  I ask that you continue to bless our family.  In Jesus name, Amen.
